Caitlin Clark helped set another record on the final night of the regular season

The Washington Mystics defeated the Indiana Fever 92-91 on Thursday night. Guard Caitlin Clark played limited minutes for the Fever as they had already clinched the No. 6 seed in the WNBA playoffs, but she played nonetheless and explained last week how important it was for her to get in front of the fans. And boy, were there a lot of fans.

20,711 in fact.

The largest crowd in WNBA history.

Clark had an immediate impact, and the WNBA set a number of records this year thanks to her immense popularity. She was with Iowa in April, and in June the league saw its highest attendance in a quarter century and set ratings records. That continued throughout the season, with ESPN seeing a 170 percent increase in ratings.

If you’re into this sort of thing, it’ll be interesting to see how the Fever and the rest of the teams fare in the ratings this weekend, with the playoffs starting with a quadruple-header on an NFL Sunday. While that may hurt, if Indiana can force a winner-takes-all Game 3 at home next Friday, who knows how high it could go?
