The Princess of Pop can’t get enough of that Sabrina espresso.

Britney Spears gives a shout-out to Sabrina Carpenter after the pop star honored Spears during her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night.

“I forget sometimes that I’m famous because I’m a mom, I’m a little old, blah blah blah. But I thought it was cool,” Spears said in an Instagram video on Thursday. “She made me cool.”

Carpenter, who dominated summer airplay with her disco-pop hit “Espresso,” performed a medley of her recent hits, including “Taste” and “Please Please Please.”

The 25-year-old singer started her VMAs number by dangling from a giant diamond in the air, before taking the stage and dancing alongside astronauts and a person in an alien suit, whom she then proceeded to kiss.

It was during the transition between “Please Please Please” and “Taste” that Carpenter paid tribute to the “…Baby One More Time” singer. As one of Carpenter’s astronaut dancers took center stage, a snippet of Spears’ voiceover from her 2000 song “Oops!… I Did it Again” began to play.

In the voiceover of “Oops!”, Spears speaks to a man who tries to win her love with the Heart of the Ocean diamond from the movie “Titanic.” In the song’s space-themed music video, the man wears an astronaut suit.

Spears said she was confused by the alien dancer in Carpenter’s performance, but she raved about the “Feather” singer.

“I adore her,” Spears said. “I love her to bits.”

Sabrina Carpenter Wins First VMAs Award

In addition to a dazzling performance at New York’s UBS Arena, Carpenter took home her first Moon Person at the 2024 VMAs.

Carpenter won the award for best song of the year for “Espresso.” The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and its music video has been viewed more than 160 million times online.

“I’ve literally never won one,” said Carpenter, thanking her fans and her “cats and dogs at home watching” before joking, “And thanks for that espresso.”
