British Royal Family and Prime Minister Deepfakes Making Rounds on Meta

Deepfake videos of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Prince William are circulating on various Meta platforms, promoting a fraudulent cryptocurrency platform called “Immediate Edge” to deceive unsuspecting viewers.

Ads featuring Starmer’s AI-generated videos proclaim that the platform he “endorses” is not a scam, and that the audience who watches the video will receive a life-changing sum of money. Meanwhile, deepfakes of Prince William supporting the prime minister are circulating, providing the royal family’s supposed endorsement of the crypto scheme.

The financial disinformation campaign was exposed by researchers at Fenimore HarperAccording to their research, since the surprise campaign in July in the UK, 250 of these ads have appeared on meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. election, and reached 891,834 people who collectively spent £21,053 thanks to the ads.
