Shortly after news broke that the San Francisco 49ers had agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that it was the same deal that had been on the table since August 10.

The deal was offered shortly after the team and the player resumed contract negotiations. It was a vast improvement over San Francisco’s previous offer, which was believed to be around $26 million per year.

Schefter’s report suggested that Aiyuk and his agent eventually relented in the confrontation with the 49ers. Naturally, Aiyuk’s agent, Ryan Williams, has denied Schefter’s claims, but he has put a humorous spin on his denial.

Williams responded on social media: “That is factually incorrect, but the check is still being cashed.”

Regardless of the report’s accuracy, Aiyuk’s financial future is now secure and he has achieved his goal of becoming one of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers.

Now that the contract is finalized, the team and Aiyuk can focus on preparing for their Week 1 game against the New York Jets, ending months of endless drama and speculation.
