49ers’ Ricky Pearsall shot during attempted robbery in San Francisco

San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall was shot during an attempted robbery in San Francisco on Saturday, San Francisco police said.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in the Union Square area of San Francisco. Police said a “physical altercation” occurred during the attempted robbery and that both Pearsall and the suspect were injured. Both were taken to a local hospital.

“The suspect is in custody and charges are pending,” police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Police did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed posted on X that her thoughts “are with Ricky and his family at this time.” Pearsall’s teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, tweeted, “He is OK. Thank God!!!!”

Pearsall, 23, was the 31st pick in this year’s NFL Draft. He played three seasons at Arizona State before transferring to Florida for his final two years of college.

In 2017, 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster and linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong escaped an attempted armed robbery outside a San Francisco nightclub around 2 a.m. on the 300th block of Post Street — blocks from where Pearsall was shot — in San Francisco.
