Jordan Mason signed for the San Francisco 49ers Monday Evening Football.

With reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey out with calf and Achilles tendon problems, Mason was tasked with leading the 49ers’ offense against the New York Jets.

He did not disappoint, using a physical running style to break tackles and gather yards after contact. By the end of the night, he had a career-high 147 yards on 28 carries, along with a touchdown. The 49ers won by a final score of 32-19.

Mason helped the 49ers sustain long drives and handily won the battle for time of possession by keeping the ball out of Aaron Rodgers’ hands as much as possible.

Fans were impressed with his breakthrough performance.

100-yard performance for Jordan Mason with 20 minutes left

Mason was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2022 after four years at Georgia Tech. Though Monday night marked the first start of his career, he has flourished as a backup option for San Francisco over the past two seasons.

In 33 games prior to the 49ers-Jets matchup, Mason averaged 5.6 yards per attempt.

If McCaffrey is unable to play in San Francisco’s Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings, expect Mason to once again play a key role in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
