10-Team Mock Draft: Marvin Harrison Jr. Drops Way Too Far Down the Draft Boards

It’s never too early to start preparing to win your fantasy football league, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do today. Using the DraftHero mock draft simulator app on 4for4, I ran a 10-team mock draft to get a broad idea of player values and what types of macro-level strategies we might see emerge leading up to the NFL season.

Today we’re using ESPN scoring settings, with a single quarterback and PPR scoring. The full 2024 fantasy football mock draft board is embedded at the end of the article, with players like Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson, Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua, and Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb helping to control the start of this 10-team mock draft.

We’re going to include both PK and D/ST in this mock draft to get a good idea of what a full-fledged team looks like in a 10-team mock draft.

Roster settings: 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 D/ST, 1K and 5 bench positions

10-team mock draft: rounds 1-4

Longest reach: Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs (Round 2, Pick 8)

Travis Kelce completed TE2, but it was a down year by his standards. His 984 receiving yards were his fewest since 2015, and a far cry from his 2016-2022 average of 1,230 yards per season. His 11.5 yards per game (half-PPR) average was a significant drop from 2022 (15.9) and 2021 (13.7). Both his yards per reception (10.6) and yards per target (8.1) were career lows.

I think it’s safe to say that the nearly 35-year-old’s days of producing top-tier offense are behind him, although he still provides a top-tier TE1 level of production in the Chiefs’ high-powered offense.

Biggest Fall: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals (Round 3, Pick 1)

With Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore gone, the Cardinals have the fifth-most available targets (217) and Harrison will soak up most of them. He steps into a fantastic situation from an opportunity and quarterback standpoint and will be right in the fantasy WR2 mix with upside from there.

Matt Harmon compared Harrison’s profile to that of Ja’Marr Chase coming out of college, adding that Harrison was “easily one of the top prospects” he had considered by Reception Perception.

The quarterback position has skyrocketed compared to previous years. In Standard and Half-PPR fantasy football leagues, a majority of the top 12 picks fall in this range, and are practically finished in double digits. A huge departure from recent history. Josh Allen kicks things off in Round 3, and all 12 teams typically have all of their QBs by the time we get out of these middle rounds.

The 2024 NFL season will have to be incredibly top-heavy for any of these options to work. When we’re talking about the 1-2 fantasy points per game range that separates entire tiers of players, we might want to go to the RBs and WRs while other fantasy managers are scrambling over a QB slate.

10-team mock draft: rounds 9-11

Longest reach: Najee Harris, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers (Round 9, Pick 5)

Despite having the 15th-most touches (253 through Week 17), Najee Harris finished as the 26th-ranked RB, two spots behind his more efficient teammate Jaylen Warren.

Warren’s touches increased from 10.6 to 13.9 when comparing the first half of the season to the second half. That increased workload may or may not continue now that a new offensive coordinator (Arthur Smith) is in town. Smith is known for using his players in frustrating ways from a fantasy perspective. Interestingly, Warren’s increased usage did not come at the expense of Harris.

Harris saw his touches increase from 14.4 to 18.8 from the first half to the second half of the season. (Harris/Warren combined to average 25.0 touches from Week 1 to Week 8 compared to 32.7 touches from Week 9 to Week 18, so Pittsburgh was much more RB-oriented in the second half of the season.) The Steelers are expected to be very run-heavy under Smith, so there should be room for both Harris and Warren in 15+ touch roles.

Depending on your specific league settings, you may or may not be forced to leave your draft with a kicker and a defense. I decided to enforce that rule in this draft to get a better idea of what a full team in a 10-team mock draft would look like. If your league forces you to leave the draft with both, I would much rather select my D/ST and kicker in the final two rounds. Some of my favorite D/ST picks at cost so far have been the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Biggest Drop: Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans (Round 12, Pick 7)

Tyjae Spears had an impressive rookie season, racking up nearly 850 yards from scrimmage and catching 52 passes. All while Derrick Henry was still fumbling. Spears had seven games with at least five targets. There’s no reason to think his involvement in the passing game will diminish anytime soon.
