On Helene’s heels, Isaac and Joyce are swirling in the Atlantic basin

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is the busiest of the entire year. Three named storms have formed, with Helene making landfall in Florida as a major Category 4 hurricane.

Helene is the fourth hurricane to make landfall and the second major hurricane in the Atlantic Basin this year. It will also be the strongest of the year with winds of almost 210 km/h.

Isaac is a tropical storm that is expected to remain in the Atlantic Ocean and move eastward away from the United States. The hurricane is expected to grow into a hurricane before dissipating within a week.

Joyce originated off the coast of Africa. It will follow a route around a high-pressure ridge in the Atlantic Ocean, keeping it out of the sea.

Another Gulf Watch next week?

The National Hurricane Center has highlighted the western Caribbean for possible development during the first week of October.

An area of low pressure is expected to form with a favorable environment for slow development as it rises northward toward the Gulf. As with any storm, there is little confidence in where something might track before it forms.
