Sam LaPorta is one of the Lions injured in the first half against the Cardinals

The Detroit Lions suffered multiple injuries in the first half of their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals, including one injury to tight end Sam LaPorta.

Then Skipper

The Lions opened the game with a couple of jumbo plays, including Skipper as an extra tackle. He would leave after the second play with an injury, but he quickly puts his helmet back on and looks ready to return if necessary

Levi Onwuzurike

First, Levi Onwuzurike cautiously walked off the court on just the second defensive snap of the game. Luckily he returned to the game, but it is something to keep an eye on in the future.

Terrion Arnold

Next up was rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold, who suffered a knee injury and was announced as not returning. He appeared to get hurt after Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray hit his legs during a scramble. Arnold tried to test his leg on the sideline for a few minutes, but sat out the entire drive. However, he eventually returned for the Cardinals’ third driveWhile Arnold was sidelined, he was replaced by veteran cornerback Kindle Vildor.

Derrick Barnes

The most concerning injury is Derrick Barnes, who was carted off with a leg injury after being hit on a cut block. Barnes has been an integral part of the defense, playing the SAM linebacker role. And with the Lions already short at linebacker—Alex Anzalone was inactive while returning from a concussion—Detroit will have to rely on its reserves if Barnes can’t return to the game. According to the team, it is officially doubtful whether he will return due to a knee injuryMeanwhile, veteran Ben Niemann took his place at the SAM linebacker position.

UPDATE: Barnes was later demoted to OUT.

Sam LaPorta

As the half neared its end, tight end Sam LaPorta was next to be injured. On a trick play by the offense, LaPorta was rolled up by a defender. He too was carried on a cart.

UPDATE: According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, LaPorta is back on the field after the break.

UPDATE #2: LaPorta limped off the field and onto the sideline during the Lions’ first drive of the second half. He was seen with his right ankle wrapped in ice on the Lions bench.

Alim McNeill

Finally, on Arizona’s final drive of the first half, Alim McNeill left the field after cautiously exiting the field under his own power. It is officially doubtful whether he will return with a shoulder injurybut was not there to start the second half.

UPDATE: Alim McNeill has been demoted to ‘out’.

We will update this post with injury updates as they come in.
