Two Lions players taken to locker room in first half against Cardinals

Glendale, Arizona. — Sunday’s game between the Detroit Lions and the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium was a costly affair in the first two quarters.

With the Lions already under defensive captain and linebacker Alex Anzalone, linebacker Derrick Barnes was wheeled to the locker room in the second quarter with a towel over his head. Rookie Cardinals tight end Tip Reimann put a helmet on Barnes’ knee as he blocked what ended up being a 3-yard gain by Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

Barnes was officially demoted to an unfit player early in the second half.

On one of the final plays of the half, Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill cautiously walked off the field due to an injury. He was ruled out early in the second half with a shoulder injury.

On one of the coolest touchdowns you’ll ever see — a hook-and-ladder scored by Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs — tight end Sam LaPorta appeared to suffer a lower-body injury and was later wheeled to the locker room. LaPorta was initially able to get off under his own power, so there’s still a chance he used the cart to get to the locker room as quickly as possible for a test with just 29 seconds left in the half.

LaPorta was seen warming up for the second half and remained in the game despite being sidelined for a stretch.

The Lions also lost defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike and offensive tackle Dan Skipper to injuries, but both players were able to resume the drive afterward.

Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold also missed a drive after suffering a knee injury while attempting to tackle Murray during a 21-yard scramble in the first quarter. The Lions had Kindle Vildor temporarily handle outside corner duties while Arnold was evaluated by the training staff.
