The 2024 Major League Baseball season has entered its penultimate week and playoff spots remain uncertain.

The wild-card races in both leagues are heating up, with a handful of teams separated by just a few games. In the National League, the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves are battling it out for the second and third wild-card spots, with Atlanta emerging as the outsider on Tuesday.

“We’re definitely competing to win, and it’s one play, one pitch. And that’s what the playoffs are all about,” Mets infielder Jose Iglesias said Monday. “It’s all about that one play. We just have to stay together. We have to pay attention to detail, every pitch, every play.”

The play-offs begin on Tuesday, October 1 with the best-of-three wild card series – two in one competition.
