Shannon Sharpe apologizes for going live on Instagram during sex

Shannon Sharpe tells him.

Hours after explicit audio of a sex act was heard on his Instagram Live – with Sharpe initially claiming his account had been hacked – Club Shay Shay presenter spoke out in an emergency episode of Nightcapthe podcast he hosts with his former NFL star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.

“Of course I’m embarrassed,” said Sharpe, 56. “(I’m) someone who is extremely, extremely private and when one of your most intimate details, the audio that the whole world hears, is broadcast to the whole world, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons.”

Sharpe continued in the third person: “People rely on Shannon. Shay Shay media … ESPN, there’s a lot of people that rely on him all the time. Even when I’m behind closed doors, I still try to maintain a professional level, even though I’m in the privacy of my own home, and I’m very disappointed in myself, not for the act — there’s millions and billions of consenting peers that are engaged in activities.”

The NFL Hall of Famer went on to say that the sex act was not “staged” and that he is not familiar with Instagram Live and has never used it before.

“I’ve never turned on IG Live so I don’t know how it works,” he added.

When his phone started blowing up as people tried to reach him, Sharpe began to realize what had happened.

“Man, my heart sank,” he said. “It fell.”

Earlier in the day, the former Denver Broncos tight end claimed in an Instagram Story that his account had been hacked.

“Please be aware, my @shannonsharpe84 Instagram was hacked this morning. My team and I are working hard to resolve this,” he wrote, signing the letter with his nickname, Unc.

Sharpe was also in the news earlier this summer for a feud with Shaquille O’Neal.

The two had a disagreement over last season’s NBA MVP, with Sharpe accusing O’Neal of being jealous of Denver Nuggets player Nikola Jokic.

The retired football player shared on Nightcap that he believed O’Neal — who has just one MVP trophy from his Hall of Fame NBA career — was partly “jealous” of Jokic.

O’Neal later released a diss track, saying Sharpe was “way beneath me” and calling his podcast “bulls—.”

While on the red carpet at the Webby Awards in May, Sharpe told PEOPLE he has “no problem” with Shaq.

“He said what he said, I’m ready to move on,” Sharpe told PEOPLE at the time.
