A man was killed in a police-involved shooting in Edmond on Friday evening.

One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Edmond.

Emily Ward, public information officer for the Edmond Police Department, said police received a request for a welfare check at 1901 Three Stars Road just before 11 p.m. Friday night.

“The caller stated that there was an unknown person on their balcony,” Ward said. “Officers arrived and located a subject. There was an officer-involved shooting and the subject was pronounced dead.”

Ward said no other information was available for publication at this time.

The incident in Edmond follows an officer-involved shooting in Mustang that also required a welfare check.

A Mustang police officer fatally shot a man during a welfare check Thursday night around 7:30 p.m. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the man, identified as Juan Barbosa, 41, refused to obey verbal commands and approached the officer near Mustang Road and SW 89.

Officers on scene attempted to save lives, but the man died, an OSBI press release said.

Mustang Police Department has requested assistance from the OSBI to help with the investigation. Authorities have not yet released any details about the shooting. News9 reported that the man’s family said he was unarmed and was having a mental health episode.

This is a developing story.
