Hales wins trap shooting gold for Team GB, Simone Biles and Andy Murray in action, triathlon water problems as Tahiti surfing postponed

Biles goes to the top!

Serena Williams is one of the many Americans in the arena eagerly awaiting Simone Biles’ debut show. And she is not disappointed!

She jumps with ease, with a difficulty rating of 5.6, but still manages a score of 14.9 – the highest score on her team.

Biles usually has the highest score (14.900) on the American team!

Meanwhile, Abigail Martin is following in the footsteps of Ruby Evans for Team GB, impressing on her Olympic final debut tonight.

The 16-year-old scores 13.466 for her floor exercise – the highest score so far!

British No.1 slams lack of cold water after defeat

Jack Draper has lashed out at Olympic tennis tournament organisers after he was refused cold water during his defeat to Taylor Fritz.

The British No. 1 was knocked out of the singles after suffering a heavy 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 defeat to the seventh-seeded American.

“I said to the referee, ‘It’s quite sad that the players have to drink hot water when we’re playing in conditions like that,'” Draper said.

“We had ice sheets and stuff, but mostly it’s important to have good refrigerators to keep our water cool. It’s so hard to recover if you just don’t replenish properly and all that stuff. There’s no escape from the heat. Not even at the change of ends.”

The change of ends gave the players the only chance to fill their own water bottles, but this came at the expense of the two-minute recovery time.

“We play such tough games, we run around in the heat and we try our best,” Draper added.

“But at the changing of the guard I ended up not sitting down because I was refilling the drinks. I want to sit down.

“At all other tournaments, you can maybe get the water from the fridge. US Open, there might be a fridge with ice, a cooler or something. That court has no shelter, so even if the umbrella is up, your legs are in the sun. It felt like there was no escape. I just think it’s really bad that they let the players experience that on the court. I just don’t think it’s good enough.”

‘GB makes flying start’

First to enter the field is Britain’s Ruby Evans, who shows no nerves and delivers a flawless routine that far exceeds her years.

The 17-year-old Welsh gymnast surprises the audience with a combination of jumps, tumbling and twists, scoring 13.1 points.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist and gymnast Craig Heap told the BBC: “A great performance and a great jump. A real sparkle from Ruby Evans at 17.

“Britain starts flying on the pitch.”

Big cheers for Simone Biles

It’s not hard to guess which team is the favorite in the arena, as Biles and Team USA receive a standing ovation.

The seven-time Olympic medalist will start with her teammates on vault, after which she will move on to bars, beam and floor.

Great Britain has also been introduced, with Alice Kinsella, Becky Downie, Ruby Evans, Abigail Martin and Georgia-Mae Fenton among the cast.

Tennis update

We are still waiting for the doubles match between Sir Andy Murray and Dan Evans against the Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.

They take to the court this afternoon for what, if they lose, could be Murray’s final tennis match of his career.

But no one wants this to happen and soon all eyes will be on the Scot and his partner.

Katie Boulter and Heather Watson faced Germany’s Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegmund and won 6-2.

In the men’s doubles, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal are also back in the game.

The superstar duo are currently level with Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof (2-2).

Hales blown away

Nathan Hales claimed the British team’s third gold medal of the Games with a stunning performance in the men’s clay pigeon shooting final.

The 28-year-old set a new Olympic record by scoring 48/50, stunning his opponents.

And after the medal ceremony he said: “It’s absolutely amazing.

“It was just an amazing experience.

“It was very difficult to keep my composure, especially because I knew I was going to win. It was very difficult to keep my feet on the ground.

“I didn’t realise I had the Olympic record, but it was amazing and I had my whole family here, including my girlfriend, baby girl and son.

“I expressed this dream ten years ago and tonight we will definitely celebrate it.”
