The Fast Track Special Court-1 on Friday sentenced a 33-year-old labourer to five years in jail and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on him for sexually abusing a three-year-old child from his neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city in July last year.

According to police, the victim was playing outside her home when the suspect picked her up and abused her before fleeing the scene. Family members rushed outside when the child began crying and took her to a doctor, who confirmed the child had been sexually abused.

Following a complaint, Inspector Chennesh analysed CCTV footage from the security cameras in and around the area before arresting the suspect.

Police recorded the suspect’s statement and filed a detailed charge sheet with the court, along with CCTV footage and statements from seven witnesses.

Bengaluru Rural District Police Chief CK Baba praised the police team for securing a conviction in the case and said the police will have zero tolerance towards crimes against women and children.
