‘Wordle’ #1,202 Hints, clues and answers for Thursday, October 3’s game

If you are working on maintaining your Word win streak – or looking for a new one –Newsweek has all the information you need to secure a win.

Years after coming up with the original concept, Josh Wardle, a Welsh-born software engineer based in New York City, perfected Word during the COVID-19 lockdowns before being released to the public in October 2021.

After his public debut, Word exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021 to 300,000 on January 2, 2022. The New York Times bought it shortly afterwards for an undisclosed seven-figure sum and it became the publication’s most popular game.

A big part of it WordThe appeal of the product is its simplicity. Players are given six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Gray tiles behind each letter indicate that they are not in the word at all; yellow means the letter is present, but in the wrong position; while green lets players know that the letter is in the word and in the correct place.

Erhan Aslan, an expert in applied linguistics who teaches at the University of Reading in Britain, previously provided useful advice for Word players in an interview with Newsweek.

“One thing I think is important in this game is the starting word chosen,” Aslan said. “It can be helpful to start with words that contain common vowels, for example e and a, consonants such as r and t, and sound sequences.

“For example, choosing a word that starts with q, z, j, or eliminate that they might think.”
