Wolves 1-2 Liverpool: Premier League – live reaction | Premier League

Important events

It’s time for me to go and read The Semiotics of Zero, so I leave you with Will Unwin’s report from Molineux. Good night!

Part

Liverpool’s response

Ibrahima Konate

Wolves were very good today. They started well and the first half was tough for us, but we got three points and we are very happy with that. This is the Premier League, every game is difficult. We sometimes lost concentration and we have to work on that.

Ryan Gravenberch

A team like Liverpool should always be near the top, so we will keep pushing. (On its own form) I wanted to show myself and now I have to keep going. Being in the starting line-up gave me confidence and I think I did very well.

Part

“I’m sure,” says Peter Oh, “this result will not generate any speculation about a Liverpool title.”

Part

Full-time: Wolves 1-2 Liverpool

Liverpool is the leader in the Premier League! They were below their best at Molineux but had enough to win a fairly mediocre game. Ibrahim Konate headed them into the lead, Rayan Ait-Nouri equalized after a cock-up from Konate and Mo Salah scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Part

90+4 mins Gary Neville’s player of the match is Ryan Gravenberch, who has made an impressive start to the season as Liverpool’s number six.

90+3 mins Gakpo slides a very inviting ball across the goal, but Alexander-Arnold knows he’s offside so he can’t touch it. Gakpo probably should have been given a chance himself.

Part

90+2 mins Now Doyle’s deep cross is claimed with authority by the flinching Alisson. At least Wolves have had a few touches in the final third.

Part

90+1 min Doyle’s clever back heel freed Forbs, whose cross from the right was headed away by Salah at the far post.

Part

90 minutes Six minutes of extra time.

Part

89 mins Apparently Wolves have had one touch in the final third in the last 19 minutes.

Part

89 min: Liverpool substitution Andy Robertson leaves as a precaution even though he can walk and looks fine. Joe Gomez replaces him.

Part

88 mins Forbs is shown a yellow card for a bad tackle on Robertson, who hits the Achilles tendon. Even if it wasn’t intentional, in previous seasons he could be sent off for it.

86 mins Wolves’ fixture list will become a lot simpler in November. The worry is that by then their morale will be through the roof. They pass the ball at the back for about thirty seconds, prompting Gary Neville to rant about their lack of urgency.

Part

83 minutes Robertson’s corner flashes across goal and is revived by Jota, who lurks behind the far post. Liverpool keep the ball alive and Konate heads a cross over the crossbar. It was too high for him to control the header.

Part

83 minutes An excellent cross from Jones, who has looked very sharp since his introduction, is headed behind for another corner from Toti.

Part

82 mins Salah rushes away from Ait-Nouri in the area, forcing Toti to come over and concede a corner.

Part

81 minutes We know 2-1 is a precarious lead, almost as dangerous as 2-0, but it feels like Liverpool are in control of the game. I can only think of one half-chance for Forbs in the 20 minutes since Salah’s penalty.

Part

80 minutes “Shirt numbers should be GUIDs,” says Richard Mullock. “This way, every player in the world will have a globally unique identifier and we will have fewer distracting conversations about who is wearing what. Trent wears: ab7a01ea-6b28-444c-8107-cd531de9e8f1. I see it now…’

Why would he have the title of an Aphex Twin song?

Part

78 minutes Jones combines nicely with Salah and shoots early towards the near post from 15 meters. Johnstone steps smartly to his left to push him back.

Part

77 min: Wolves substitution Tommy Doyle replaces Santiago Bueno, which means a recast of a certain description. Lemina could go on the defensive.

Part

76 mins The last man, Semedo’s ball forward, is shot by Jones and ricochets kindly to Salah. Liverpool have a two-on-one, but Salah’s pass to Jones is particularly weak and Semedo cuts him out.

Part

75 mins Joao Gomes punches the ball in frustration after receiving a penalty. Speaking of which, this will never get old.

Part

74 minutes “For those who want to think about such things, I would recommend it The semiotics of zero by Brian Rotman,” says David Watters. “What else are you going to do with your Saturday night?”

I was planning on watching Pine Barrens for the 492nd time, but maybe it’s time to embrace the new.

Part

73 min: Double substitution for Liverpool Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones replace Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Part

72 min: Great defense by Konate! A really good break from Wolves. Cunha makes a penetrating early pass to find the lively Forbs, who are now playing on the left. He cuts inside Alexander-Arnold on the edge of the area and Konate comes across to deflect his shot backwards for a corner. Hwang was unmarked at the far post, but I don’t think Forbs saw him.

71 minutes The timing and manner of that punishment have upset the Wolves, who seem ripe for a knockout. They have their chins in the air, that’s what I mean.

Part

69 mins “The Premier League’s Luddite obsession with integers is a shame,” says Paul Griffin. ‘What’s wrong with the Chaitin Constant on the back of a shirt. I wouldn’t say the game is over, but it’s heading towards zero.”

Believe it or not, this started out as a live blog of a football match.

Part

68 minutes Cunha shoots tamely wide from the edge of the penalty area after the victory over Alexander-Arnold.

Replacement of wolves Hwang Hee-chan replaces Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Part

65 minutes Salah cuts inside Ait-Nouri on the edge of the penalty area and curls a nice shot towards the far corner. Johnstone raises his hand and grabs the falling ball.

Part

63 minutes “Yes, the SFA,” Dylan Drummond begins, and that is the nicest thing he will say about them, “Scotland still embarrassing the world as usual, this time by banning zero, probably in the hope that the scope of the ban could be extended to the number of goals Scotland usually scores in a football match.

“In other (quite old) news, in 1962 the SFA justified not taking part in the qualifying stages for the European Nations Cup on the basis that Scotland ‘already had sufficient commitments and could not possibly commit to playing any more matches’. In 1962, Scotland played three home Championship matches and one friendly. End of rant.”

I could happily read a few more paragraphs; You’re in good shape.

Part

62 mins Konate makes a mistake on Cunha and gets a yellow card. He’s gone from being a hero to… what’s that song again?

Part

61 minutes “Zero is certainly considered a number now, but Europeans got by without it until the 13th century, when it was introduced from the Hindu-Arabic number system,” says David Sutherland. “I’m not sure what they did with football games where no one scored…”

59 min: Penalty for Liverpool! Alexander-Arnold curls an inswinging cross towards Jota, who gets the wrong side of Semedo and is pulled over by the neck. Soft, but this will not be undone; you can’t put your hand around someone’s neck, not even tenderly.
