Will Dolphins RB play the Bills tonight?

play

The Miami Dolphins are looking to end their four-game losing streak against the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills, but they may be without one of their top offensive playmakers.

Running back De’Von Achane is officially doubtful for Thursday night’s game due to an ankle injury.

Achane ran for just 24 yards on 10 carries in Miami’s Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he added 76 yards on seven receptions. A 2023 third-round pick out of Texas A&M, he proved to be a breakaway threat as a rookie, averaging 7.8 yards per carry and giving defenses another speedster to reckon with in coach Mike McDaniel’s offense.

If Achane is unable to play, the Dolphins’ ground game could look very different than usual, as Raheem Mostert is already out with a pectoral injury.

Here’s the latest news on Achane ahead of Thursday’s match:

De’Von Achane injury update

According to McDaniel, the decision on Achane will be made at the last minute due to his ankle injury, he told reporters on Wednesday.

“We’ll see how it goes,” McDaniel said.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that there was “optimism” Achane would be able to play after testing his ankle prior to the game.

Achane was listed as a limited participant for the Dolphins’ practice on Wednesday, which was conducted unsupervised.

In two games against the Bills last season, Achane collected 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.

Jeff Wilson Jr. finished as the Dolphins’ leading rusher in Week 1, ahead of both Mostert and Achane with 26 yards on five carries. The seventh-year running back could see a bigger workload, especially if Achane is held back.

But fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright could also be a factor in the team’s game plan. Wright was a healthy scratch for the opener, but the Tennessee product has proven to be a big-play threat thanks to his 4.38 second speed in the 40-yard dash.
