Cissy dies twelve years after the untimely death of her daughter. The soulful singer passed away in 2012 after a long battle with substance abuse.

According to TMZ, Cissy’s death was originally reported by the Associated Press. The Grammy Award winner was surrounded by her family as she received care at a hospice, the AP reported.

Mrs. Houston was struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.

Sissy Houston’s daughter-in-law releases statement

Ms Houston’s daughter-in-law, Pat, released a statement on behalf of the family.

“Mother Cissy has been a strong and distinguished figure in our lives. A woman of deep faith and conviction, who cared deeply about family, ministry and community. Her seventy-plus year career in music and entertainment will be at the forefront remain from our hearts,” Pat said in the statement.

The AP also reported that Pat called Cissy’s musical contributions “second to none.” Sissy cooperated Elvis Presley. She was also a member of The Sweet Inspirations, which did background vocal work for many well-known artists, including Dionne Warwick.

The group was also part of the recording of Van Morrison’s legendary song. “Brown Eyed Girl”, and also collaborated with The Jimi Hendrix experience. Ms. Houston was on stage with Presley as she performed her final performance with The Sweet Inspirations.
