When does Daylight Saving Time end in Ohio?

The days are getting shorter again. But this November there is a little more time on the clock.

Daylight Savings Time is almost over, which means Ohioans can rest assured that the sun will soon rise and set earlier.

Daylight Saving Time ends on November 3rd. The clock will go back one hour, because the clock was put forward one hour in March.

The result of the extra hour will be an earlier sunset, as the approaching winter months continue to shorten the days. Sunrise will also be earlier than normal, likely in the 6am hour.

After the clocks go back one hour in November, daylight will continue to decrease until the winter solstice, which occurs on December 21. This will be the shortest day of the year in most locations.

What is Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight Saving Time was given official start and end times throughout the state with the passage of the Uniform Time Act in 1966. Daylight Saving Time originally began on the last Sunday in April and ran through the last Sunday in October, but this was changed in 2005 to the current schedule of the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November.

The first form of Daylight Saving Time was introduced in the early 1900s, when the Standard Time Act was passed as a means of conserving energy during wartime.

When will Ohio turn back the clock?

Ohio residents, like other participating states, can set their clocks back at 2 a.m. on Nov. 3. Most smartphone users will see their clocks automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time, but other clocks will likely need to be set back manually.

What does the end of Daylight Saving Time mean for Ohio residents?

For many Ohioans, the end of Daylight Savings Time in November means an extra hour of sleep, as clocks go back at 2 a.m. That means the night will be longer than usual.

Is Daylight Saving Time Useful?

Modern technology has made Daylight Saving Time less effective at conserving energy than it was in the past, and there are also studies linking Daylight Saving Time to potential health risks. There was a recent attempt to make Daylight Saving Time permanent with the Sunshine Protection Act passing the U.S. Senate in 2022, but that bill failed to make it out of the House of Representatives, so little is known about what the future holds for Daylight Saving Time.

When does Daylight Saving Time start in 2025?

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 9, and ends on November 2, 2025.
