Donald Trump held a press conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and offered some advice to his running mate ahead of the debate.

“Have fun, JD, have fun,” he said.

“He’s a smart guy. He’s been great. He’s been a real warrior, a top student at Yale. He’s a very brilliant guy in so many ways.

“And you know, he’s a very hard worker. He goes around and is not afraid of the media.”

CBS says Trump withdrew from the planned interview

He has said no to a new debate against Kamala Harris and now, Donald Trump has withdrawn from a scheduled interview.

CBS News said Trump has declined to participate in an interview with his 60 minutes program for the election special, which will be broadcast next Monday.

The program typically invites both presidential candidates for separate interviews that air back-to-back before the election.

60 Minutes says Trump’s campaign initially agreed to the interview but later told CBS he would not appear.

When asked for comment, the former president’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, said there had been discussions about the former president’s participation, but nothing had ever been committed.

CBS says the special will only go forward with Harris’ participation.

On the left side of the screen we will see Donald Trumphis running mate J.D. Vance. He has spent less time in politics than he has Tim Walz — Vance was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022 to represent the state of Ohio.

He spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including about six months in Iraq in 2005, as a military journalist, and has also worked as a venture capitalist. But before entering the Senate, he was best known as the author of a best-selling author, Hillbilly Elegy, in which he reflects on his life and his community growing up poor in rural Ohio. It’s now a Netflix movie.

At 40, Vance is 20 years younger than Walz. If Trump wins the election, Vance will be the youngest person ever elected Vice President of the US (while Trump the oldest person elected President). Vance is married and has three children.

This debate is a chance for the vice presidential candidates to introduce themselves to American voters who may not know much about them.

Although both have been active on the campaign trail, neither Walz nor Vance has spent a lot of time in the national spotlight.

It’s just after 7pm here in DC and in New York, which means things are kicking off in just under two hours.
