Viral Chase Bank ‘outage’ leaves many with negative balances and frozen accounts

Think twice before rushing to the nearest Chase bank to commit a mistake (read: check fraud), because a number of people are still shocked by the consequences.

The ‘malfunction’ is simply the deposit of bogus checks for large amounts of money that go undetected, allowing people to then withdraw the money or see it immediately in their accounts, or apply for large loans.

Chase clearly caught on quickly. People who try the exploit are now facing seven-day holds or extremely negative balances, some reportedly in the tens of thousands.

Similar exploits have occurred in the past with Cashapp, where people were able to transfer large amounts of money they didn’t have, and DoorDash, where customers were able to order whatever they wanted without being charged fees. In both cases, the charges were reversed and people were forced to pay their debts.

Chase has not acknowledged the virality of the fraudulent transactions. In the meantime, stick to using the money you Doing to have.
