Verizon has confirmed an outage that affected some of its cell phone users and led to a flood of complaints on social media about disruptions in making calls and accessing the internet.

“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” a Verizon spokesperson told CNN on Monday. “Our technicians are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.”

The outage appeared to start around 11 a.m. ET, with about 100,000 customer reports on DownDetector, a site that tracks complaints about service outages.

Complaints about Verizon’s verified account on The outage appears to have lasted for several hours and started mid-morning on Monday morning.

Many Verizon iPhone customers complained that their phones were stuck in “SOS” mode Monday morning, allowing only emergency calls via satellite.

Verizon has 114.2 million subscribers in the United States, according to its website.
