Trump Responds to ABC News Presidential Debate Appearance

Former President Trump responded to his performance during ABC News’ presidential debate late Tuesday night on “Hannity,” saying it was his “best debate ever.”

“I thought it was really good. We were three to one, but I expected it,” he said, referring to debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis, who sometimes checked facts and pressured the former president to give his answers.

Davis asked Trump a question about his position on abortionand he claimed that some states allow abortion in the ninth month of a pregnancy.

“They even did it, and you can look at the governor of West Virginia, the previous governor… not the current governor, who’s doing a great job, but the governor before that, he said, ‘The baby is going to be born, and we’re going to decide what to do with the baby,’ in other words, we’re going to execute the baby. And that’s why I did it,” Trump said.

Davis interrupted his argument to say, “There is not a single state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it is born.

Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump about reports that Harris’ campaign is seeking a second debate in October, and whether he would be open to that. Fox News has sent formal invitations to both the Trump and Harris campaigns for a second debate next month.

“She wants it because she lost,” Trump responded. “I don’t know. I have to think about it. But if you won the debate, I think maybe I shouldn’t do it. Why would I have to do another debate? She said right away we want another debate. That’s… you know what happens when you’re a boxer and you lose? You want another fight right away.”

“Would you be inclined to say yes?” Hannity asked.

“If it were on a fair network, I might do it,” Trump said.

The 2024 Republican presidential nominee also heckled Harris over her answers to some debate questions.

“I always say I’ve been preparing for these debates my whole life. You know, you can’t just go in like she did, she goes into a room and she’s pretty much memorized her lines,” he told Hannity.

Trump and Harris received positive and negative reactions to their performances during the debate.

Brit Hume, chief political analyst at Fox News, said the former president had “had a bad night.”

“We heard so many old grievances that we thought Trump had learned for a long time that he is not a winner politically,” Hume said after the debate.

Harold Ford, Jr., former Democratic congressman and co-host of “The Five,” acknowledged that Harris could have been more specific in her answers and better addressed the changes in her policy positions.
