The Trump campaign said Sunday that former President Donald Trump is safe after shots were allegedly fired near Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

It has not yet been confirmed whether shots were actually fired.

A source familiar with the matter told NBC News that Trump was immediately taken to safety and is now safe, the source added.

In a statement, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said: “President Trump is safe following gunfire in his area. No further details at this time.”

“The Secret Service, in coordination with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. The former President is safe,” the Secret Service said in a statement.

A senior law enforcement official briefed on the incident told NBC News that Trump was on the golf course when shots were heard nearby.

As a precaution, the Secret Service moved him to safety, but there was no evidence Trump was targeted. Local police are investigating the source of what may have been gunfire.

In a post on X, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he had spoken to Trump after the incident. He did not share information about Trump’s condition, but added: “He is one of the strongest people I have ever known. He is in good spirits and he is more determined than ever to save our country.”

The White House said in a statement: “The President and Vice President have been briefed on the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was playing golf, and they are relieved that he is safe. They are being updated regularly by their team.”
