Troopers urge fans to prepare for Hot Husker Saturday – KCSR/KBPY

Loading

As the Huskers return to action Saturday at Memorial Stadium, the Nebraska State Patrol is encouraging fans to be prepared for heavy traffic and high temperatures.

Troopers will work to ensure safe travel on area roadways, with assistance from troopers from the NSP AirWing. Fans should be prepared for traffic congestion as they get closer to downtown Lincoln. NSP also encourages fans to check Nebraska 511 for the latest information on construction zones and any detours that may be necessary. Fans can hear traffic reports from Trooper Brett on Huskers Radio Network broadcasts before and after the game.

The Nebraska State Patrol works closely with partner agencies on various aspects of gameday operations. Troopers are working with the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, UNL Police Department and the Nebraska Department of Transportation to keep fans safe as they travel to and from the game, as well as in and around Memorial Stadium.

At the stadium, fans can text UNLPD at 402-472-0800 to reach the stadium control room if they need assistance. Anyone needing assistance can also contact a trooper, officer, deputy, security or event staff at the game. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s at kickoff. Fans should stay hydrated and watch their fellow fans for signs that they are suffering from the heat.

During the first four home game days of the season, troopers made 35 drunk driving arrests. NSP calls on all motorists to always have a sober driver.
