Trent Williams returns to San Francisco, ending delay

The 49ers enter the regular season with all key pieces of their offense intact after left tackle Trent Williams agreed to sit out early this morning.

Although a new contract has not yet been signed, Williams’ agents confirmed on Tuesday that he has agreed to a contract.

“All-Pro LT Trent Williams heads to SF to finalize a new deal with the San Francisco 49ers,” agency Elite Loyalty Sports said on social media.

Williams’ brother also posted on social media that Trent has boarded a plane to San Francisco and is ready to begin his 15th NFL season.

Along with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers were in contract negotiations with two of their top offensive players this offseason. But Aiyuk got a new deal, and now Williams does too.

While they don’t have much time to practice, Aiyuk and Williams will likely both be on the field when the 49ers open the season Monday night against the Jets.
