Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Bowden Francis has thrown eight innings without a hit against the Los Angeles Angels.

Francis has walked three batters and hit one batter, while striking out 12 batters, a personal best. He has thrown 111 pitches, 81 of which are strikes.

Left-hander Genesis Cabrera was warming up for the Blue Jays in the eighth inning.

The 28-year-old Francis was named American League Player of the Week last week after going 2-0 with an 0.64 ERA in two starts, the first of which saw him pitch seven innings in a road win over the Angels on Aug. 12.

The Blue Jays lead the Angels 2-0 on Saturday.
