ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1185 Hints, Clues and Answers for Monday, September 16

It’s the last Tuesday of summer, but it already feels like fall here. The wind has picked up and the leaves are taking over, falling en masse before they’ve even changed color. Soon the aspen groves will be glistening yellow, gold, and white. I live very close to Lothlorien, you know:

There are few things more beautiful than an aspen forest in the fall. It is awesome and majestic and a little melancholic. I am sure that fairies roamed here long ago before man came and chased them away.

Anyway, let’s solve this Wordle!

How to solve today’s Wordle

The hint: Pretty, often referring to something rather than someone, as in “she’s a real ____”

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

Today I really lucked out with my opening guess. I don’t often pick words that start with the letter ‘B’, but for some reason when I sat down to do the Wordle today BLARE blared in my head, trumpet-like and brazen. I thought for sure BEAST would be the right answer. Ironically, it might have been BEAUT.

Beauty and the Beast remains my favorite Disney movie of all time. What a classic. No live action adaptation will ever compare.

Competitive Wordle Score

Same as yesterday: I get 1 point for guessing in three, but Wordle Bot also guessed in three, so 0 points for the tie. 1 point is still good! Hooray for me!

How to Play Wordle Competitively

  • Guess a number 1 and you get 3 points; guess a number 2 and you get 2 points; guess a number 3 and you get 1 point; guess a number 4 and you get 0 points; guess a number 5 and you get -1 point; guess a number 6 and you get -2 points and missing the Wordle gives -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily score or just play every day for a new score.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points, positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running count or just play day-to-day. Have fun!

The Etymology of Today’s Wordle

The word “Nice” is a shortened or truncated form of the word “beauty”. It originated in Australian and New Zealand English in the late 19th century, where it was used informally to describe something or someone as particularly excellent, wonderful, or impressive. Over time, it became a colloquial term meaning “a great example” or “something good”.
