Titans trade QB Malik Willis to Packers in exchange for seventh-round pick

Currently, Jordan Love is backed up by 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford and 2024 seventh-round pick Michael Pratt. Neither has shone this preseason, and Willis will at least provide a more experienced option.

In a 2022 draft class that was short on QB talent, Willis was seen by some as a potential first-rounder. He ultimately fell to the third round, where he was the third QB selected overall. Willis, Kenny Pickett (first round, No. 20 overall), Desmond Ridder (No. 74) are all now on different teams, while other notables like Matt Corral and Sam Howell have also moved on. The final pick of that draft, Brock Purdy, is of course still with the San Francisco 49ers.

Willis has played in 11 games with three starts in two seasons, all of which came as a rookie when he went 1-2. He has completed 53 percent of his 66 passes for 350 yards and has yet to throw an NFL touchdown pass. The Liberty product does offer some spark with his legs, with 144 yards (4.5 yards average) and a TD.

Willis is still only 25, but could get another chance to improve his game under Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. For now, though, he should help expand the Packers’ quarterback room behind Love and end his unlucky tenure in Tennessee.
