This Month in Video Game Vlogging, July 2024 – Critical Distance

Welcome back, viewers.

While the purpose of this roundup is to focus on good video games content, the closure of the legendary video game magazine Game Informer last week cannot go unnoticed. Game Informer was hugely influential and, until its ignominious demise, was home to many, many, many writers whose work has appeared in past editions of Critical Distance roundups. There’s not much we can do to undo the damage done by GameStop executives (or the executives of every game media company that has laid off its staff in recent years), but this much we can do:

Former Game Informer staffer Alex Van Aken has launched a new video game documentary channel. The channel is called Viewport and Van Aken has already made a number of documentaries – on Another crab treasure and indie microgame Castaway – in the making. Give Alex and Viewport your eyes and maybe a little financial support. You can bet we’ll be there when that happens Another crab treasure doc drops.

Speaking of financial support, everything we do here at Critical Distance is reader-supported via Patreon! Your membership helps us continue to write great writing about games, whether that’s done on the page or in front of the screen.

This month in Videogame Vlogging highlights the most engaging critical video game videos from the past month.
