The law laid down.

One nugget Joe unearthed while poking around the Bucs locker room after the Eagles loss is that a Bucs captain ripped his teammates a new backside last week for the way they stinked up the joint against the lowly Broncos .

And he is also a man who does his best not to be in the spotlight. That would be Lavonte David.

Joe was told that David really tore up teammates because he wasn’t prepared, didn’t play hard from the opening kickoff and embarrassed himself against the Broncos by playing like a Sun Belt team.

His words must have still been ringing in everyone’s ears on Sunday as the Bucs played with energy, fire and emotion in beating the Eagles. The offense was precise, sharp or, as Bucs coach Todd Bowles called it, “sharp.”

They seemed like two completely different Bucs teams in the span of eight days.

Today Joe asked David if he “raised hell” last week and David chuckled and admitted, yes, he did.

“It is what it is,” David smiled. “(I) just had to lead. Things needed to be said. To be the football team we want to be, there were standards we had to maintain.

“So things had to be said. And I think (those words) were well taken.

They certainly were. The Bucs played like they were on a mission last Sunday. The guidance was spot-on. Guys who normally had a hard time held on. And of course the Bucs stars were, well, stars.

Mike Evans probably had his best game of the season. Rachaad White easily had his best match. Chris Godwin was Chris Godwin. Baker Mayfield was sharp as a knife. Vita Vea was unstoppable.

If David waited to pick the right moment to unload on teammates, it appears he picked the perfect moment.
