The season’s most popular shows and highly anticipated spin-offs

The changing of the leaves often coincides with the changing of the channels. Fall is the peak season for TV.

Many of the most-watched shows will be airing new episodes, and it can be overwhelming to keep up with them all. But you don’t have to — Yahoo Entertainment is breaking down all of your most anticipated series yearbook-style, in superlatives.

  • When: Season 1 of English teacher airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Episodes stream the following day on Hulu.

  • What you need to know: A gay high school teacher in Texas struggles with personal and professional challenges.

  • Why you should watch this: Will and grace actor and TikTok phenomenon Brian Jordan Alvarez has his own Abbott Elementary School, But with an edge.

  • When: The first two episodes of season 2 of the Frasier revival streams September 19 on Paramount+.

  • What you need to know: Following the series’ conclusion in 2004, the series follows snobbish former psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) in his “third act” in Boston, where he meets his estranged son.

  • Why you should watch this: After a guest appearance last season, Frasier’s beloved radio colleague Roz Doyle will be a returning cast member.

  • When: Season 4 of Abbott Elementary School premieres October 9 and airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes will stream the following day on Hulu.

  • What you need to know: The Emmy-winning series follows cheerful teacher Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) and her eccentric colleagues, including her mentor (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and the chaotic principal (Janelle James).

  • Why you should watch this: Janine and Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams) aren’t officially a couple yet, but their slowly blossoming romance finally came to fruition in the Season 3 finale, so it’s likely that the new season will explore the aftermath.

  • When: Season 2 of Tracker premieres October 13 and airs Sundays at 8pm ET on CBS.

  • What you need to know: Justin Hartley stars as a lone survival wolf who travels the country in search of bounties and helps people solve mysteries.

  • Why you should watch this: The first season was the most-watched of the 2023-2024 season. No other first-year show has achieved that distinction since Survivor from 2000.

  • When: Season 1 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Wedding premieres October 17 and airs Thursdays at 8pm ET on CBS.

  • What you need to know: Young Sheldon the last episode aired in May, but the Big Bang Theory spin-off is getting its own sequel that revolves around Sheldon Cooper’s older brother and his wife.

  • Why you should watch this: Montana Jordan and Emily Osment star in the first show in the franchise to not feature super-genius Sheldon. Whether it has the same impact remains to be seen — but it seems viewers are already attached to the young Texas parents.

  • When: Season 4 of Ghosts premieres October 17 and airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

  • What you need to know: Homeowners Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) share a sprawling estate with an eclectic cast of ghosts, from a brash lounge singer to a cheerful ’80s Boy Scout leader.

  • Why you should watch this: The ensemble comedy is based on a British series, but has since become a beloved TV item, no different than The office, but with less painful humor and more spooky chaos.

  • When: Season 2 of Elsbeth premieres October 17 and airs Thursdays at 10pm ET on CBS.

  • What you need to know: The dramedy spin-off of The good woman has a lighter tone and follows Carrie Preston’s unconventional lawyer character, Elsbeth Tascioni.

  • Why you should watch this: While Elsbeth’s wardrobe is certainly colorful and quirky, it’s the way the series takes the procedural formula and dresses it up in fascinating and fresh ways that makes it well worth watching.

  • When: Season 5 of The equalizer premieres October 20 and airs Sundays at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

  • What you need to know: In this crime drama, a reboot of the 1985 series, Queen Latifah plays a single mother and street activist who pursues her own redemption while helping others seek justice.

  • Why you should watch this: The emotional cliffhanger of the previous season keeps us on the edge of our seats, as do the spectacular stunts in the series.

  • When: Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, premieres November 10 and airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount Network.

  • What you need to know: This contemporary Western drama centers on conflicts between the ranch-owning Dutton family, the nearby Indian reservation, the national park, and real estate developers.

  • Why you should watch this: The hugely popular show hasn’t aired a new episode since January 2023, and its final season has been eagerly anticipated, even without the presence of Kevin Costner, who is now focusing on his own life. Horizon film franchise.
