The PlayStation Network is experiencing a global outage, with subscribers confirming that they can no longer play games online or access the company’s website.

When users try to access PSN, they may be greeted with error messages stating: “A connection to the server has timed out” or “An error has occurred.”

The PlayStation Network status page has confirmed the outage, stating that it is affecting all services, including account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct.

“You may be experiencing issues launching games, apps, or network functions. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience,” reads the status message for the gaming and social service.

The status page states that the outage started at approximately 8:41 PM ET and that they are working to restore service.

Earlier today, Sony fixed a bug that caused ads, game promotions, and trailers to appear where custom game art normally appears when selecting a game.

This outage is not believed to be related to this previous issue.

Update 30-09-24: Sony has updated the PlayStation Network Status page to indicate that the PlayStation Direct issues have been resolved.

However, all other PlayStation Network services remain offline and backend servers still return “HTTP 500 Internal Server Error” messages. This type of error often appears when a server is overloaded.

This is a development story.
