Ms. Vance, editor of the Yale Law Journal, would advise Mr. Vance on maintaining relationships with professors and sharpening his writing. At the RNC, the two reportedly went over each other’s speeches before addressing the crowd in Wisconsin.

She embarked on a high-flying legal career after college, clerking for John Roberts, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, and Brett Kavanaugh, who Trump would eventually elevate from the District of Columbia appeals court to the Supreme Court.

“Maybe I’m getting a little too cocky or a little too proud. I just remind myself that she is much more talented than I am,” Mr. Vance said in a podcast in 2020.

The couple married in 2014 and have three children, two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.

Speaking to Fox News in August, Ms Vance described the comments as a “joke” and tried to downplay them.

He would “never, ever, ever say anything to hurt someone who was trying to have a family, who was really struggling with that,” she said.
