ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Nearly every college football analyst expected Michigan to lose to USC on Saturday, but they play their games for a reason.

With Alex Orji at the helm as the starting quarterback for the first time, the Wolverines ran early and often while the defense constantly pressured quarterback Miller Moss. The second half was a grind offensively and defensively, with sudden breakdowns. The Trojans jumped out to a late lead, but running back Kalel Mullings wouldn’t be deterred, ripping off a career-high 63-yard run to get the Maize and Blue into the red zone. A few plays later, on a fourth-and-1, Mullings hit paydirt, and Michigan took the lead for good.
