Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman sidelined with AC sprain while throwing shoulder

Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman was not allowed to start Saturday against Florida because of a sprain in his right throwing shoulder, coach Mike Elko said.

Weigman’s availability for the afternoon game was a game-time decision, as he was listed as questionable during the week. Redshirt freshman Marcel Reed earned the start in his place.

Weigman reportedly suffered the injury during A&M’s season opener against Notre Dame on Aug. 31. He appeared off-balance during the Aggies’ 23-13 loss, completing 12 of 30 passes for 100 yards and throwing two interceptions.

Despite that, he started A&M’s win over McNeese State last week with 125 yards and two scores on 11 of 14 passing in the first half.

The Cypress product wore a uniform and participated in pregame warmups with the Aggies’ first-team offense before it was decided he would not start. He was also reportedly given painkillers before the game.

Last season, Weigman got off to a promising start as the Aggies’ starting under center, posting a 2-1 record through three games. He broke a bone in his left foot in A&M’s fourth game of the season, a win over Auburn.

Weigman finished the year with 979 passing yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions. He added two scores and 63 yards on the ground.
