While an appearance by Taylor Swift at a football game broke the internet just a few years ago, Swifties and non-Swifties alike are now pretty used to her showing up to cheer on friend Travis Kelce and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs supports. And yesterday, Swift made another appearance at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City as Kelce and co. facing the New Orleans Saints.

Those who remember Swift’s first forays into football fandom in 2023 will remember her wild reactions, big faces and utter joy as she cheered on her husband. And yet yesterday’s visit to KC seemed somewhat, I don’t know, subdued? Swift’s body language appears to be in stark contrast to her previous behavior.

None of this is to say that Swift didn’t smile, clap, and genuinely support her man. But the lack of over-excitement that was there before could be a sign that their relationship has moved to a new phase: the comfort phase.

New love is often characterized by giddiness, foolishness and wild displays of affection. We definitely got a lot of it early on from Swift and Kelce. But as their relationship has evolved and matured, it seems like they’re in a much more grounded and comfortable place — probably a good sign for the future.

Could Swift’s faint cheer be a sign of trouble in paradise? Certainly, everything is possible. But it’s just as likely, if not more likely, that things have simply leveled off between the two.

In case you forgot what Swift’s previous football appearances looked like, in December 2023 she was photographed absolutely losing it next to Brittany Mahomes.

Likewise, her giant facial expression was all anyone could talk about during her October 2023 outing, including with Mahomes.

This flattening in their relationship is not only evident when Swift is alone; it was also recently noted by body language expert Darren Stanton (speaking on behalf of Spin Genie) when she was with Kelce at the US Open.

According to Stanton, things have clearly calmed down a bit (something that’s to be expected as a relationship progresses). He said: “The couple’s PDA was very full for a while, holding hands and kissing in public, but this seems to have subsided as time went on. (Kelce’s) only really trying when (Swift) is watching. She’s a firecracker as usual, but it’s when she looks at him that he really gets involved.”

The fact that Swift and Kelce continue to support each other (Kelce even gave her a subtle nod during his recent acting gig) is a sign that things are still going strong. And as much as Taylor loves butterflies, those first butterflies can only last so long.
