As Taylor Swift sits in the stands watching her boyfriend Travis Kelce play for the Kansas City Chiefs, she’s already started coming up with plays for the team, according to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“She’s really interested in football and she asks a lot of good questions,” Mahomes told NBC’s Chris Simms with a smile in a recent interview. “She started coming up with plays, maybe we should put one in.”

Since Swift began dating Chiefs tight end Kelce last year, the NFL has received a lot of attention and attracted new audiences to the league as two major American pop culture staples collide.

About 123.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the Super Bowl game between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers in February, the highest viewership of any U.S. television broadcast since the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

“I think it’s cool to see the girls and women who have really embraced watching football,” Mahomes said. “I know as a father of a girl, how cool it is for me to see these little girls — these daughters — and how much they love spending time with their dad, watching football.

“And then when I met Taylor, I realized how genuine and cool she is. I think that was special for me because she’s, like you said, the most famous person in the world, she can’t be.”

Even before Swift’s relationship with Kelce, the pop star was a soccer fan, referencing the Philadelphia Eagles in one of her songs and wearing their jerseys when walking around New York City.

Mahomes was also quick to highlight the influence of Chiefs coach Andy Reid on their offense, as he led the team to three Super Bowl victories in five years.

“He’s clearly one of the best coaches of all time, especially in terms of thinking offensively,” Mahomes said. “The way he’s able to continue to bring us new plays and new movements and stuff to keep us interested and keep us in the game every week of the season is unique.”

Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs begin their quest for a famous third win on Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
