Tampa Bay Buccaneers arrive in New Orleans seeking refuge from Milton

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Tampa Bay Buccanneers landed in New Orleans on Tuesday (Oct. 8), to escape the path of Hurricane Milton, which is set to strike Florida’s west coast as a large and dangerous major hurricane Wednesday night.

Former Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt, who is on the Bucs’ practice squad, posted Tuesday morning once the team’s plane touched down in New Orleans. The Bucs will practice at Tulane’s Yulman stadium leading up to the game against the Saints on Sunday.

Former Tulane QB Michael Pratt, who is now on the Bucs’ practice squad, posted this as the team landed in New Orleans Tuesday morning, evacuating from Hurricane Milton.

The Bucs play the Saints on Sunday.

A Buccaneer’s equipment truck was spotted traveling down Poydras en route to the Superdome.

The Bucs are coming off of an overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons and Kirk Cousins, who threw for a career-high 509 yards and four touchdowns, the last of them a 45-yard scoring pass to KhaDarel Hodge for the 36-30 victory.

Baker Mayfield threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Mike Evans.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr suffered an oblique injury during Monday night’s 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Carr, who was sacked once and hit eight times, left the game after being hit by Chiefs defensive back Chamarri Conner. Carr underwent an MRI on Tuesday to assess the extent of the injury.

Despite the injury, Carr managed 185 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, though much of his yardage came from a 43-yard touchdown to Rashid Shaheed.

The Saints, now preparing to face the Buccaneers, will also have to contend with a short turnaround before playing the Denver Broncos just four days later.

The Buccaneers’ relocation is one of many disruptions caused by the storm. The Tampa Bay Lightning canceled a preseason game and the University of Central Florida canceled home athletics events.

It’s the third time in the past seven years the Bucs have shifted operations to another area to avoid bad weather.

In 2020, they traveled to South Florida ahead of Hurricane Ian to practice at the Miami Dolphins’ training facility before returning home to play the Kansas City Chiefs. When Tampa Bay’s 2017 season opener against the Dolphins was postponed because of Hurricane Irma, the team chartered several planes to move players, coaches and families to Charlotte, North Carolina, to escape the storm.the

TRACKING MILTON

Milton rapidly intensified in the Gulf of Mexico, strengthening from a Tropical Storm to a Category 5 hurricane in 24 hours – the fastest intensification ever in the Gulf. As of Tuesday afternoon, the storm was a Category 5 hurricane with 165 mph sustained winds.

The storm threatens to bring dangerous storm surges and widespread destruction to areas already reeling from Hurricane Helene just weeks ago.
