Steve Sarkisian reviews the first touchdown drive of Arch Manning’s career

For only the third time in his career, Bow Manning gets playing time in a Texas uniform. This round the opponent is State of Colorado as the backup quarterback gets into the act with the Longhorns winning in a blowout, Manning decided to get involved and threw his own touchdown, the first of his career.

Steve Sarkisian was able to give a quick assessment of the overall drive during an interview with ESPN during the game. The head coach believes that all of Texas’ positive attributes were on full display in Manning to produce a score that had everyone in Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium cheering loudly.

“I liked how he continued his progression on the keeper there and found the open route,” Sarkisian said entering the fourth quarter. “And then third down — the one thing about Arch is he’s a real athletic guy. He can use his legs, extend the play and find a touchdown pass.”

It’s not often that programs have a backup quarterback of Manning’s caliber. Manning, a former Five-Star Plus+ prospect and the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, is entering his second season with the program. Not many high-level quarterbacks would sit behind someone else for a few years.
