Spirit Halloween returns on ‘SNL’ after the show teased the store

Spirit Halloween is in the fighting spirit.

The store has gone swinging in response to a “Saturday Night Live” skit that aired last weekend during the show’s 50th season premiere.

The skit was a fake commercial for Spirit Halloween, starring Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman and Michael Longfellow as employees who touted the chain as a home-based business that revitalizes communities. The sketch then poked fun at the store for moving into abandoned storefronts (and leaving after six weeks), selling knockoff costumes and hiring “perverts” for short-term jobs.

Spirit Halloween reposted the video, along with a caption showing that it can also hand out the video.

“We’re great at bringing things back from the dead @nbcsnl,” it wrote on ” The package says it comes with “dated references,” “unknown cast members” and “shrinking ratings.”

Spirit Halloween’s post had fans laughing.

“I’m not going to lie: This was funnier than many of the sketches I’ve seen on ‘SNL’ recently. And I say this as a long-time fan of the show who still largely enjoys it,” one person wrote in the comments.

“Creepy laughs are the best kind! Glad to hear it brought some Halloween joy! Let’s keep the fun going all season long! wrote Spirit Halloween in response to that comment.

Still, some people cheered the show for its removal of Spirit Halloween.

“SNL didn’t even lie with that sketch. ,” someone wrote.

“SNL rules,” someone else enthused. “It always has been that way, and it always will be that way.”
