PROVO, Utah – BYU football plays an SMU team in a new uniform on Friday night in Dallas.

SMU unveiled a new red uniform with a white helmet and red face mask, which will be worn against the Cougars.

BYU will wear a new uniform combination featuring all white and navy blue

Meanwhile, BYU will wear a uniform combo for the first time. The Cougars will wear an all-white uniform with navy numbers and stripes and a navy helmet with a white facemask.

Friday night’s game will be the fifth meeting of all time between the two schools. BYU has never lost to the Mustangs and has a perfect 4-0 record.

The last time BYU played SMU in Dallas was in 1997, when the two were members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). As in the 2024 game, SMU wore a red uniform in that game.

BYU wore a white jersey and royal blue pants in the 1997 reunion, with current head coach Kalani Sitake at fullback. He rushed for six yards on two carries in the 19-16 Cotton Bowl victory.

SMU is asking its fans to wear red when they enter Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Friday, while BYU fans have been asked to wear royal blue for away games.

The game will be between two undefeated teams, as BYU enters the game with a 1-0 record after defeating Southern Illinois of the FCS in their season opener.

SMU is 2-0 early in the season after victories over Nevada and FCS Houston Christian last week.
