Skylar Thompson, Terron Armstead lead long injury list in Miami Dolphins loss

The Miami Dolphins also struggled on Sunday, losing 24-3 to the Seattle Seahawks, and suffered injuries to key players, including quarterback Skylar Thompson and left tackle Terron Armstead.

Thompson, who started in place of Tua Tagovailoa — who is on the injured list and will miss at least three more games with a concussion — was knocked out in the third quarter. Seahawks defensive end Dre’Mont Jones hit Thompson as he completed a pass to running back De’Von Achane. Thompson, who appeared to be holding his chest after the blow, was escorted to the locker room and did not return.

“He (Thompson) is dealing with a rib injury. We’ll know more tomorrow,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said in his post-game press conference on Sunday.

Reserve player Tim Boyle replaced Thompson, while newly acquired Tyler Huntley was designated as emergency third quarterback but did not play.

Thompson completed 13 of 19 for 107 yards before leaving, but the Dolphins’ offense managed just one field goal. Penalties and poor play by the offensive line hampered Miami’s efforts.

“I’m not making excuses,” McDaniel added. “I thought both quarterbacks handled the ball well, we just didn’t execute.”

Armstead’s injury also added another hurdle for Miami on the offensive woes list.

The Pro Bowl left tackle, who had been nursing a shoulder injury since Week 2, left the field in the third quarter with an eye injury after a collision at the line of scrimmage and did not return.

Dolphins tackle Kendall Lamm replaced Armstead and rookie offensive tackle Patrick Paul made his NFL debut in the fourth quarter, when Lamm moved from left tackle to right tackle to replace Austin Jackson, who was briefly injured before returning.

In addition to the losses of Thompson and Armstead, linebacker David Long Jr. was forced off the field with a hamstring injury and fullback Alec Ingold was briefly treated in the emergency tent.

McDaniel did not provide an update on Long and Ingold’s injuries, but did confirm that Armstead and cornerback Kendall Fuller are under the concussion protocol.

The Dolphins played the game without injured running back Raheem Mostert (chest) and rookie wide receiver Malik Washington (quad).

Sitting at 1-2, the Dolphins have an extra day to recover as they prepare to face the 0-3 Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football in Week 4.

With injuries continuing to mount, the team must find a way to bounce back as quickly as possible in hopes of getting the season back on track.
