Sid Vicious, WrestleMania star and WWF champion who had cancer, dies at 63

Two-time WWF Champion Sid Vicious has died. He was 63.

Professional wrestler Gunnar Eudy’s son announced the passing of his father, born Sidney Eudy, in a Facebook tribute on Monday, August 26.

“I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after a years-long battle with cancer,” Gunnar wrote of Sid, who was also known in the ring as Sycho Sid and Sid Justice. “He was a man of strength, kindness and love, and his presence will be greatly missed.”

PEOPLE reached out to Gunnar Eudy for further comment.

Tributes poured in to the WWE’s WrestleMania star, former WWF wrestlers and fans alike, detailing Sid’s impact on the wrestling community.

Shawn Michaels, who once hired Sid as a bodyguard before challenging him for the WWF Championship title, was “saddened” by the news.

“An unforgettable presence, and it cannot be overstated how integral his role was in creating ‘The Heartbreak Kid.’ His work, legacy and influence will inspire our company for generations to come,” Michaels, 59 and retired, said in a statement about X.

Sycho Sid first became WWF Champion in November 1996 by defeating Michaels. After losing the title to Michaels in a rematch a few months later, Sid regained the title from Bret Hart in February 1997.

His former wrestler Booker T also shared a message about Sid’s legacy.

“Without Sid Vicious I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” Booker T, 59, wrote on X. “His impact on this business was undeniable and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.”
