Shannon Sharpe apologizes for viral Instagram Live sex video

After initially claiming he had been hacked, American Football Hall of Fame inductee Shannon Sharpe admitted on Wednesday that he inadvertently livestreamed audio of himself having sex to his approximately 3.2 million Instagram followers.

In an emergency episode of the podcast “Nightcap,” which he co-hosts with former NFL player Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, the Denver Broncos tight end apologizes for his mistake.

“Of course I’m embarrassed. Someone who is extremely, extremely private and has one of your most intimate details – the audio – out there for the whole world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” Sharpe said.

“There are a lot of people who rely on Shannon to always be professional and I always try to be professional, even behind closed doors.”

The incident went viral after thousands of people began commenting and reposting the link to Sharpe’s Instagram account. He later deleted the post, blaming it on his lack of technical knowledge.

“I threw my phone on the bed, did something,” he said. “I didn’t know about IG live. I’ve never turned on IG live, so I don’t know how it works, and all of a sudden my other phone goes off.”

Sharpe won three Super Bowls during his 14-year career, two with the Broncos (following the 1997 and 1998 seasons) and one with the Baltimore Ravens (2000). Sharpe is one of the most dominant tight ends in NFL history. He was named first-team All-Pro four times and was a member of the league’s All-Decade Team in the 1990s.

Since retiring as a player, Sharpe has become a fixture in sports media, most notably serving as a sparring partner for Skip Bayless on FS1’s “Undisputed” until leaving the show last summer.

Since then, in addition to his podcast with Ochocino, he has also become a contributor to ESPN.
