    Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke for many fans when he called quarterback Matthew Stafford “such a f–king stud” after Sunday’s 27-24 comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers.

    The MMQB’s Albert Breer relayed McVay’s comment, which saw him award Stafford a game ball in the locker room.

    Stafford threw for 221 yards and one touchdown, numbers that don’t exactly jump off the page. But the two-time Pro Bowler was without his top two wide receivers (Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua) and lined up behind an offensive line missing three starters (Jonah Jackson, Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom).

    Los Angeles was the clear underdog entering Week 3 and San Francisco looked set for an easy win when it led 14-0 in the first quarter. Instead, the Rams fought back despite having so many key players injured.

    That felt like a cultural victory for the #RammingDespite the heavy injuries at the start of the year, there is now a long tradition of resilient football under the leadership of Sean McVay.

    Stafford was instrumental in setting up the tying score late in the fourth quarter, his 50-yard pass to Tutu Atwell putting the offense in a first-and-goal situation.

    Then the veteran signal-caller was smart enough to test 49ers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell on a throw that resulted in pass interference, sending the ball 25 yards downfield, ultimately giving Joshua Karty a chip shot for a game-winning field goal.

    Stafford is now bound Tied with Drew Brees for the fifth-most fourth-quarter comebacks of all time (36), he seems to thrive in adversity, often overcoming the situation in critical moments.

    It’s largely thanks to the 36-year-old that Rams fans have renewed faith that this is a team that can make the playoffs, despite all the injuries.
