It’s almost here It’s no surprise that Sabrina Carpenter won the Video Music Award for Song of the Year for her hit “Espresso.” After sharing a kiss with an alien during her performance earlier that night, Carpenter took the stage to accept her first-ever Moon Person.

“Well, hi,” she said, posing with her Moon Person. “I’ve literally never won one before. This is really special. The first people I want to thank are the fans… I just want to say that you guys are the reason I get to do what I love, but also the reason we have so much fun and share music together.”

“I just feel so grateful that I have the best, truly the best fans in the world. I know that sounds cheesy, but I love you guys, so thank you,” she added. “Thank you to my managers. Thank you to my family, my cats and dogs that are at home.”

Carpenter also shouted out her “Espresso” co-writers, including Amy Allen, Julian Bunetta and Steph JonesSteph, Amy Julian. “I just love you guys so much. I love making music with you guys and I can’t wait to share more with the world,” Carpenter added. Thank you for that, Espresso.”

The Short and sweet single “Espresso” dominated the summer and catapulted the singer to a new level of fame. “I think music has seasons and the project has to dictate a specific time,” the singer said Rolling Stone earlier this year.

This year marks the first time Carpenter has been nominated at the VMAs. In addition to Song of the Year, Carpenter was nominated in seven categories, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Song of the Summer, Best Director, Best Editing and Best Art Direction.

The VMA Song of the Year category was filled with a healthy mix of heavyweights and newcomers, and a host of hits, including Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Jack Harlow’s “Lovin’ Me” and Teddy Swim’s “Lose Control.”

Last year Taylor Swift won the award for Midnights“Anti-Hero.” Billie Eilish won the year before for “Happier Than Ever.”
