    PISCATAWAY − One game, one win.

    Rutgers Football’s offense started sluggishly, but the Scarlet Knights jumped out to a second-half lead and defeated Howard 44-7 on Thursday night at SHI Stadium in the season opener.

    Freshman running back Antwan Raymond closed out the scoring with an 11-yard run as the final seconds ticked by.

    This time it’s a three-yard touchdown pass from Kaliakmanis to tight end Kenny Fletcher. It’s 38-7 Rutgers with 4:16 to go.

    Kaliakmanis hit running back Sam Brown for a 34-yard touchdown pass to give Rutgers a 31-7 lead with 2:33 left in the third quarter.

    It’s Brown’s first career touchdown catch.

    Monangai runs the ball in from seven yards and with 8:06 left in the third quarter, Rutgers is up 24-7.

    With that run, Monangai reached the 165-yard mark, which tied the most yards in a single game.

    The Bisons get on the scoreboard with 40 seconds left in the first half when Eden James scores on a two-yard run.

    It’s 14-7 for Rutgers.

    Athan Kaliakmanis hits Dymere Miller for a two-yard touchdown pass, capping a seven-play, 55-yard drive that lasted 3:55.

    It was Miller’s first touchdown with the Scarlet Knights after joining the program during the offseason as a transfer from Monmouth, where he broke several program records.

    Kyle Monangai made a big run of 39 yards to start the drive and get the ball to Howard’s 16-yard line.

    Eric Rogers returned an interception 52 yards to give the Scarlet Knights a 7-0 lead with 8:50 left in the first quarter.
