The titular alien in the Stranger universe has gone through many different iterations over the years and in the various sequels, but by the time we get to Alien: Romulusthe Xenomorph was a whole new playing field, and they Real started to look realistic.

Set on a derelict ship, a group of young space scavengers, including Rain (Cailee Spaeny), attempt to use the cryostasis chambers, but they don’t get far after an encounter with some facehuggers. Then came the fast-growing human-Xenomorph hybrid known as The Offspring, who then targeted Rain.

The Offspring is similar to The Engineers in that it has human features mixed with some Xeno abilities, but what’s even more disturbing is the behind-the-scenes footage that reveals that the Offspring was actually played by an actor, and not just a puppet or CGI creation. Director Fede Alvarez shared a video of Robert Bobroczkyi, the 7′ 7: Romanian basketball player, playing the Offspring in a very long and creepy glory. The clip shows Bobroczkyi calmly receiving instructions while looking like the most terrifying human in the universe. However, he did not shoot a basketball.

Visual effects supervisor Daniel Macarin said Variety how creepy it was when Bobroczkyi first arrived on set. “The first time we saw the signs, and this 7-foot-1 actor standing there in his costume, it was terrifying,” Macarin says. “They did such a great job with the look and feel of that character that we knew anything we could put into it would only help.”

The Offspring is Bobroczkyi’s first film role, but Hollywood is always looking for really tall men, so he could have a fruitful career, as long as no one puts him next to Tom Cruise.
